Transference – Artist Statement

These images are drawn from my life, representing interests, bits of information, past events or small stories. They are unified by an underlying foundation: the transfer of energy through chemistry. All photographic processes make use of energy transfer; it is what allows light to convert silver salts to silver metal.

Each print comes into being slowly, developing over the course of hours as the paper absorbs light and moisture from the environment, and residue from food.

The final print is only a record of the reactions that created it. Reactions that, by the time the artwork is viewed, have run out.
